Child Custody Evaluations and Social Investigations

Child Custody Evaluations are now called Social Investigations. A Social Investigation is done by qualified individuals to assist the Court in making decisions about time-sharing of minor children when the parents are divorced, separated, or no longer living together. An assessment is done of the adults' capacities for parenting, the psychological functioning and developmental needs of the children, and the ability of each parent to meet these needs. The Social Investigator is charged with determining what is in the best interest of the minor children and making recommendations based on those findings.

A Social Investigation is conducted by a professional, without bias, and does not guarantee any particular outcome in court, regardless of which party pays for or participates in the services.
