Dr. Paul Maxfield
Licensed Mental Health Counselor
National Certified Counselor
Counselor Educator
Former College Professor
Paul (he/him/his) earned his MS in Counseling from Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi, and his PhD in Counselor Education from Kansas State University. Prior to that, he received a BA in English Literature from the University of Windsor in Canada. Paul spent three years teaching counseling at the University of Florida including classes in careers, assessment, research, sexuality, group counseling, and internship. While he enjoyed his time as a professor at UF, he is now ready to return to clinical work.

Paul has experience helping clients with depression, anxiety, trauma, addictions, professional issues, relationship issues, identity development, adjustment challenges, work/life balance and other life-stresses. He operates primarily from a Narrative orientation in which he assists clients to explore and interrogate dominant and problematic stories and revise them in ways that are more authentic and validating. In addition, he often incorporates elements from cognitive-behavioral, reality, person-centered, and existential therapies as well as the use of creativity and mindfulness practices in his work.
Outside of the office, Paul lives happily with his wife and two small dogs. He often enjoys walking when it’s not too warm or spending an hour or two digging through crates in record stores (or surfing the internet) for interesting new music.
